Bungalow blaze highlights call for more local firefighters

A HOUSE fire in Hordon on the Hill was tackled by Essex Fire and Rescue Service, who are looking for more people to join the crew at a local station.

On call firefighters from Corringham were among four crews who attended the blaze on Friday afternoon at a bungalow in Gordon road and the Corringham watch commander, Geoff Wheel, said: “Crews worked incredibly quickly to bring the fire under control and stop it spreading to neighbouring properties.

“Unfortunately the bungalow has suffered severe fire and water damage which has resulted in the occupants being rendered homeless.

“Thankfully no one was injured during the incident.”

The cause of the fire has been recorded as accidental.

Corringham Fire Station is crewed by on-call firefighters – people who live or work within five minutes of the fire station and attend incidents when paged by the fire service. They never know what they will be called out to, but they always know they will be protecting their community by becoming a fully trained firefighter. Visit join.essex-fire.gov.uk to find out more
