HOT on the heels of their successful production of ‘The Sound of Music’, TOPS on stage will perform another Rodgers and Hammerstein show when they present ‘Cinderella’ at The Thameside Theatre from Thursday, 17 October to Saturday 19 October.
Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella is a musical initially written for television, but later performed on stage. It is based upon the fairy tale Cinderella, particularly the French version Cendrillon, ou la Petite Pantoufle de Verre, by Charles Perrault.
The story concerns a young woman forced into a life of servitude by her cruel stepmother and self-centered stepsisters, who dreams of a better life. With the help of her Fairy Godmother, Cinderella is transformed into a Princess and finds her Prince.
The version that Tops on Stage are performing, more closely resembles the 1997 version which starred Brandy Norwood in the title role, with Whitney Houston as the Fairy Godmother.
Tops on Stage are one of the last remaining musical theatre groups in Thurrock and are dedicated to performing two musicals at the Thameside Theatre each year. Their shows are cast by open audition and always welcomes new members.
Performances of Cinderella are at 7.30pm and the Saturday Matinee performance at 2.30pm.
