Top national role in social care for council officer

THURROCK’S Principal Social Worker Fran Leddra has been appointed to the position of Chief Social Worker for England in a joint role with Mark Harvey of Hertfordshire County Council.

Fran Leddra, Principal Social Worker and Strategic Lead for Safeguarding and Adult Social Care, will be stepping up to the position in the Department for Health on Tuesday, 1 October 2019.

This follows the news that Chief Social Worker for England Lyn Romeo is stepping down from the position for a period of 12 months. Ms Leddra will continue to work in her current role at Thurrock Council while undertaking this secondment.

Ms Leddra said, “At Thurrock Council I’m proud to be part of an innovative team that is recognised for making transformational changes and feel really fortunate to work alongside talented social workers and managers. I’m delighted to be able to job-share the Chief Social Worker for England role with Mark Harvey and continue the work we do on a national platform.”

Cllr Sue Little, Cabinet member for social care, said: “Congratulations to Fran Leddra who has been appointed to this exemplary position after contributing her knowledge and expertise to the social care profession for more than 30 years.

“I have every confidence that together Fran and Mark will continue to push forward and transform practice across the country.”

Thurrock Council chief executive Lyn Carpenter says: “What a fantastic achievement by Fran, we are super proud of her!”
