Club plays host as scouts explore the river

Club members and Scouts relax after an exciting night's sailing

THURROCK Yacht Club hosted an evening of yacht sailing for Thurrock Scouts on Thursday, 27 June.

On a warm and breezy summer evening, a number of club members made themselves and their boats available to give the Explorer Scouts a taste of sailing on the open tidal waters of the Thames.

The evening was arranged to complement the scouts extensive water sports programme which normally involves dinghy sailing in more sheltered waters.

A spokesman for Thurrock Yacht Club said: “We are really pleased to have been able to arrange this evening for the Scouts, a movement that we wholeheartedly support.

“The Thames is a major asset for Thurrock and this was a great opportunity to promote it to a younger generation”.

The event was the latest in a number of initiatives the club are involved in to raise the profile of sailing in Thurrock in 2019, including the SailThurrock summer programme in conjunction with Grangewaters Outdoor Education Centre.
