Qaisar organises double celebration

THURROCK councillor Qaisar Abbas hosted a programme in Grays to celebrate Eid and the Queen’s 93rd birthday, which was also marked with a cake.

Cllr Abbass, who represents West Thurrock and South Stifford ward, said: “The local Imams prayed for Her Majesty’s good health and long life. The speakers congratulated the Muslim community on Eid festival.”

The event was attended by Thurrock community police officers, deputy mayor Cllr Susan Shinnick, past mayor Cllr Steve Liddiard, past mayor of Barking and Dagenham Cllr Abdul Aziz, Thurrock Labour Party’s parliamentary candidate Cllr John Kent, Grays Mosque Imam Salim Rahman, NASFAT Imam Rasheed Ayoola, Grays Gurdawara Gayanai Richpal Singh, Gurdawara President Baldeve Singh Gill, Cllr Oliver Gerrish, Cllr Bukky Okunde (Deputy Leader Labour Group), Cllr Lynn Worrall, Cllr Sara Muldowney, Purfleet Forum chairman John Rowles and vice chairman Trevor Bachelor, Director of CfPD Sohail Khan, senior solicitors Shafeeque Chaudhary, Princiap WIC Hassan Ashraf, classical singers Nafees Irfan, Syrian singer Dr Alakhbaz, Raja Nazir Ahmed, Ms Samia Ali (PPP UK General Secretary) and other community leaders from various organisations.

The celebration was held at the Mangal Meze Restaurant on Orsett Road, Grays.
