Guild set to recall the twenties in celebration

GRAYS Afternoon Townswomen’s Guild met on Wednesday, 22 May when chairman Yvonne Lauder welcomed members, including four new ones.

After basic agenda diaries were produced and the chairman advised of special meetings and outings to the end of the year, culminating in the Federation Carol Service at Chelmsford in December.

The chairman advised several members were joining with the South Essex Federation to attend the AGM of  Townswomen’s Guilds at Cheltenham in their 90th year.

Those attending would be dressing in the style of the 1920s and the chairman said she hoped members would follow suit for our own Celebration Day on Wednesday, 26 June.

As part of the challenges set by HQ during this special year there was a competition for collecting as many articles beginning with ‘T’ in a standard sizes match box.  Results next month.

Speaker for the afternoon was  Micky Driver who entertained members with songs from the time of the beginnings of TG until today.  Members joined in with much enjoyment and disappointment when Micky had to finish.

Raffle was drawn and the competition won by Ann Knowles. Next meeting 26 June at 1.30pm.
