TWO of Thurrock’s four Rotary clubs are to merge.
After almost a year of holding joint meetings the Rotary Club of Stanford & Corringham and the Rotary Club of Corringham Thameside have agreed to disband and form as a new club which will be known as Rotary East Thurrock.
President elect for the new club is Peter Wigington, who said: “We will still be doing all the usual events and serving all our local groups as the two clubs did but, with our combined efforts, we will be able to do lots more.”
To celebrate the new club a black tie dinner dance and charter evening is to be held at The Old Regent Ballroom in Stanford-le-Hope on Friday, 21 June.
Following the meal there will be a few formalities where the current presidents will hand their chains of office to the district governor elect to mark the dissolution of the two existing clubs.
The district governor elect will hand over the new Charter certificate and induct Mr Wigington as the first president of the new Rotary East Thurrock.
A few very special awards will then be made to mark the end of two eras and the beginning of another.
