Stanford rail crossing closed after driver fails to beat closing gate

STANFORD-le-Hope’s rail crossing has been closed after a car attempted to beat a red light and the descending barriers.

The driver did not make it and demolished the barrier.

The incident happened around 7.30pm this evening (Monday, 25 March).

Network Rail workers are on site but say the crossing is unlikely to be reopened for vehicles until around 9pm.

No one was injured in the incident.

Local bus services, including the 100, will be disrupted.
