Volunteers turn negative into positive after club vandal attack

THE best (or should that be worst) efforts of teenage vandals were thwarted by volunteers at a borough youth football club who acted quickly to repair damage wreaked on their facilities.

The Thurrock Independent recently reported on damage to team shelters at the side of East Thurrock United’s youth pitches, reportedly carried out by a group of drunken teenagers.

However, volunteers responded to repair the danger.

Simon Hoskins and James Brunsden, coaches of the Under 11s and Harry and Barry Monk,  father and grandfather of an under 12 player were quickly on scene.

James purchased the equipment needed to repair and both him and the others spent a morning repairing them.

Harry and Barry continued in the afternoon, painting and finishing off the repairs.

A spokesperson for East Thurrock said: “We are very grateful for this quick response and our thanks go to those who turned a negative into a real positive.”
