Pedestrian in collision with lorry: Driver was arrested after failing drugs test say police

A LORRY driver was arrested following a collision with a pedestrian in North Road, South Ockendon on Thursday (10 January) afternoon.

A social media post by Essex Police’s road unit said: “HGV vs pedestrian, not life threatening, HGV driver arrested on suspicion of drug driving, failed drug wipe.”

An Essex police spokesperson confirmed the incident, saying: “We were called at 3.40pm with reports of a collision between a lorry and a pedestrian.

“The pedestrian, a man aged in his 30s, was taken to hospital with a serious leg injury.

“A 39-year-old man from South Ockendon was arrested at the scene on suspicion of driving under the influence and he has been released under investigation.”

The Essex and Herts Air Ambulance attended the incident which happened near the Tesco petrol station and store.
