Promising debut for Joe as Millers bow out

Joe Elliott

Aveley 0, Cheshunt 4
AVELEY’s interest in the Isthmian League Cup, for the Velocity trophy, was short-lived as a below strength side bowed out to Cheshunt at Parkside on Monday evening but the consolation was an impressive first team debut from U18s captain Joe Elliott.
Millers almost got off to a flier when Alex Teniola was put through on goal but Bobby mason saved well. Elliott then caught the eye, not for the last time, with a great defensive header as Chshunt pressed.
The visitors were enjoying far more possession and it was no surprise when they took the lead on 14 minutes when Emiel Aiken tapped in after a goalmouth scramble.
Further Ambers pressure saw Hafeez Sanusi fire over the bar from distance before a rare Aveley attack saw Teniola force another save from Mason.
A second goal for Cheshunt came on 37 minutes when Sanusi headed home and the visitors took a three goal lead into the break when Ali Chantery hit the back of the net with a 40th minute rocket. It might have been more but for a fine save from David Hughes.
Though Aveley were better in the second half they were unable to grab a foothold in the match ans Oluwole Akinsanya wrapped things up for Cheshunt ten minutes from time with the game’s final goal, curling the ball into the far corner.
