Anger over plaque theft: “Whatever happened to respect?”

A THURROCK councillor and former mayor has spoken of her disappointment after thieves or vandals have taken recently restored memorial and tribute plaques from an avenue of trees.

Cllr Joy Redsell

Cllr Joy Redsell, who represents the Little Thurrock Blackshots ward, spoke up after the plaques were taken from trees on the approach to the Civic Hall and Leisure Centre off Blackshots Lane.
She said: “At the entrance there is a grassed area which has many trees, which were planted many years ago.
“A few of the trees have plaques on which were in a bad state so Friends of Blackshots decided to replace them and bring them up to date in respect to the people who were named on the plaques. We had them redone and they were put back in place.
“Last week we were told they had been stolen. A lot of hard work has been put in to replace them. I would like whoever took them to know that a lot of hard work by a lot of people including the council went into this project. Whatever happened to respect?”
