Grays hold nerve to win through

Grays celebrate their opening goal.

Grays Athletic 4, Norwich United 3
GRAYS saw off a comeback from the visitors to Parkside to claim victory in Saturday’s FA Trophy Preliminary Round tie against a fellow Bostik North side currently propping up the table.
The Blues enjoyed a great first half, being quickest out of the blocks and they had already had one ‘goal’ disallowed before Kieran Bishop showed pace and strength the chase down a half chance and round the keeper before scoring in the tenth minute.
Norwich responded with a fine finish from Liam Jackson nine minutes later but Grays then moved into a big lead as Stanley Muguo fired a low shot home from the edge of the box on 26 minutes, Bishop capitalised on more lax defending to seize on a backpass and score on 39 minutes and then Grays were awarded a penalty which Joao Carlose calmly slotted home just before the interval.
Grays lost they way a little in the second half and the visitors made it 4-2 when Adam Hipperson crashed home a fine free kick from the edge of the box with 15 minutes remaining and in the last minute of normal time Adam Probert nipped in between defenders and keeper Lamar Johnson to net Norwich’s third and cause a few anxious moments but in the end Grays held on.
