Major incident close to Coryton refinery site: Fire crews attend as noisy steam shoots high into the night sky


EMERGENCY services rushed to the former Coryton refinery near Corringham this evening (Saturday, 25 April) as residents in the area were shaken by a loud noise and what initially appeared to be an explosion at the site close to the river Thames.

On arrival firefighters found a major safety valve had ‘lifted’ – causing a huge and very noisy plume of steam into the air.
