Basildon United 2, Aveley 1
AVELEY’S interest in the Essex Senior Cup ended at the Cousins Car Wash Stadium on Tuesday evening against a Basildon side who were then further lifted by the confirmation of new manager Glen Kendall.
Kendall experienced semi-professional football in England before going onto enjoy professional stints in Poland and Thailand.
Kendall started his managerial career in 2014, in Thailand, before returning to England to lead Leyton Athletic in the Essex Senior League. A stint in charge of Clapton has also followed, along with an assistant manager role at Newbury Forest.
Kendall saw his new charges cause something of an upset by beating Aveley after being gifted a seventh minute own goal through Harry Gibbs.
Ernest Okoh added a second for the Bees a minute before half time, but there was still enough on the clock for Jon Nzengo to grab one back for the Millers before the interval.
The second half was goalless, earning Basildon a home tie in the fourth round against Billericay Town.
