‘Unexploded bomb’ discovered near QEII bridge proves harmless

WHAT was thought to be an unexploded World War II bomb discovered in Thurrock caused the closure of the QEII bridge this morning (Tuesday).

However, on inspection by bomb disposal experts, it turned out it was an empty shell casing with no explosives inside.

It will now be taken away from the site and there will be no need for any further closures to the QEII Bridge.

Police arrived on scene at an industrial site in Oliver Close, Grays, after the ‘bomb’ was discovered at around 8.55am. The nearby bridge was closed for a short time but has since re-opened.
