THURROCK’s 112th Park Run at Orsett Heath got underway this morning and was a very special one for two reasons.
Two of the regular runners, Ray Davies and Boomy Tokan (left) were completing their 100th park run and were lauded by race director Peter Eates, warmly applauded and given a presentation of biscuits before the start!
And the run was also used to promote a new campaign encouraging people with respiratory conditions to stay well by joining in with a new campaign #Scarfie.
More than 93,000 people across the region have asthma and COPD – a lung conditions that causes difficulty with breathing. Cold air is a common asthma trigger and can make health worse.
Under the initiative it is hoped to encourage as many people as possible to stay well when temperatures drop this winter. One simple tip is to wear a scarf loosely across your mouth, this warms up air before you breathe it in and can help people with asthma and other lung conditions.
#Scarfie, an Asthma UK campaign, encourages people to take a selfie wearing a scarf and share this simple tip widely with friends and loved ones.
