Thurrock bow out of cup in entertaining game

THURROCK bowed out of the BBC Essex Senior Cup on Monday evening in an entertaining match at the Weston Homes Stadium.

The visitors made a decent start and Dennis Oli had an early chance saved by Daniel Wilkes but it was to be the hosts who opened the scoring on 29 minutes when James Goode deflected the ball into his own net.

Thurrock almost responded instantly but Oli’s header came back of the post and when he tucked home the rebound he was flagged offside.

Colchester took the led into the break and extended it seven minutes after the resumption when George Brown went on a surging run that ended in a fine shot high into the roof of the net.

Thurrock pulled one back on the hour when Joel Nouble fired home but the two goal advantage was restored just four minutes later when Courtney Senior raced through and produced a fine finish.

The scoring was completed on 78 minutes when sub Eoin McKeown finished of a fine move with an exemplary finish.
